Sir Michael Barber
Sir Michael Barber joined McKinsey in September 2005 as the expert partner in its Global Public Sector Practice. Since then, he has led a strategy to enable a major charity strengthen the impact of corporate social responsibility and the education service, and worked with the mayor of a major US city to design and implement a performance management system.
In 2001, prior to joining McKinsey, Sir Michael was appointed Chief Advisor on Delivery to Tony Blair. He managed implementation of the Prime Minister's priority programmes in health, education, transport, policing, the criminal justice system, and asylum/immigration.
Before joining government, Sir Michael was a professor at the University of London's Institute of Education. He has written a number of publications, including The Learning Game: Arguments for an Education Revolution (Indigo, 1997), How to do the Impossible: A Guide for Politicians with a Passion for Education (Institute of Education, London, 1997) and The Virtue of Accountability (Boston University, 2005).
