NESTA believes that the Business Support Simplification Programme will reduce confusion, but needs to go further if it is to achieve its aims: publicly-funded business support products should be significantly reduced in number, rather than just rebranded. Such products should also be nationally branded, regionally tailored and locally delivered.
Furthermore, publicly-funded business support for innovation should be treated as a high priority, with support extending beyond science and technology. It should help businesses to work collaboratively within and outside their sectors, and become part of broader networks.
