Sami Mahroum
Research Director, Regional & International Innovation
Dr. Sami Mahroum has a PhD in Science and Technology Policy & Human Resources from the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the Helmut-Schmidt University (Bundeswehr University-Hamburg). He spent part of his PhD training at the Department of Geography, University College London, and at the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies in Seville, Spain.
Prior to that, he gained an MSc in Science & Technology Dynamics from the University of Amsterdam, and a Bachelor degree in Political Science & Development from the University of Oslo.
Before joining NESTA, he worked for various organisations, including the Technology Policy Group at the Austrian Research Centres in Vienna, the Ministry of Research & Innovation at the Ontario Government in Toronto, the Science and Technology Policy unit at the TNO, and Rand Europe in Leiden.
Sami’s main research interests are in the international mobility of human resources and innovation policy, but he has extensive experience in a wide range of issues related to innovation policy.
He has published in top peer-reviewed journals and has recently become a Visiting Reader at the School of Management and Organisational Psychology at Birkbeck College, University of London.
