The Open Data Challenge Series has now run seven successful challenges on Crime and Justice, Education, Energy and Environment, Housing and Food, Heritage and Culture and Jobs.

The handbook aims to tell the story of Challenge Series so far and will also help readers who may be interested in running a challenge of their own by providing an overview of the challenge methodology used encouraging an assessment of whether their sectors are suitable.

Use the handbook to:

  • see the range of ways that an open data challenge can make impact
  • understand the methodology involved in designing and running an open data challenge
  • explore your own ideas for running a prize and sense check whether you have enough data to run an open data challenge
