Public good

Public good

Public goods are goods or services that can be consumed by several individuals simultaneously without diminishing the value of consumption to any one of the individuals. The main characteristics of public goods are non-rivalry and non-excludability (an individual cannot be prevented from consuming the good whether or not he pays for it). A famous example of public good is the lighthouse (R. Coase, 1974).
