Why are we doing this?
We want to encourage and support more charities to develop new digital tools and services that address big social problems.
We believe established charities are well positioned to develop innovations:
- they have extensive knowledge of the social issue they are addressing and therefore well placed to identify where innovation is required
- they have a user base they can tap to test and develop innovations
- they have sufficient brand and reach to take innovations to market and scale
Technology is a powerful tool for social good but it’s underutilised in the charity sector. The increasing uptake and decreasing costs of technology have opened up huge opportunities to deliver accessible, affordable and personalised services at scale and at low cost – a particularly attractive proposition in the current economic environment.
We want to see more charities exploit the potential of digital technology to develop new tools and services which extend the reach and impact of their work, and ultimately help more people.
