Richard Brown has a BSc in Computers and Cybernetics and an MA in Fine Art and works as an artist, inventor and entrepreneur creating interactive and mimetic experiences using a wide variety of media, including digital, analogue and chemical. His work explores the perception of space, time and energy encompassing ideas from cybernetics, artificial life, natural computing, emergence, complexity and alchemy. Art works include: Alembic (ISEA and ICA 1997), Biotica (Siggraph 2000), The Mimetic Starfish (Millennium Dome 2000, Kinetica 2006, Emoção Art.ficial 6.0, Brazil 2012), Mimesia (House of Tomorrow 2003-2005); the production of two exhibitions and artworks celebrating the work of Gordon Pask - Maverick Machines (Edinburgh 2007) and Pask Present (Vienna 2008).
Entrepreneurial activities include the patenting of a proximity lighting control apparatus (GB2420457) and the production of proximity controlled lighting for the Scottish Design Shows in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Switzerland (2007); the development of the design enterprise mimelight.com and its lighting product Quantum PearlTM, exhibited at Tent London and in Liverpool, Paris and Berlin (2009-2011).
