Product artist Lionel Dean has been exploring the creative potential of digital design and manufacturing technology for almost ten years and is at the forefront of 3D printing in art and design. In 2002 he founded FutureFactories, a studio focused exclusively on 3D printing technologies and developing computational design methodologies which combine computer-aided design (CAD) with computer programming. FutureFactories featured in RCUK's 2011 publication Big Ideas for the Future and the work has been aquired by The Museum for Modern Art in New York and DHUB Design Museum Barcelona, for their respective permanent collections. In 2008 the MoMA piece was included in a Highlights Collection of the Museum's 250 most significant acquisitions since 1980.
Lionel's pieces are exhibited in our reception area.
