Britain's 50 New Radicals will celebrate the inspiring people or organisations that have come up with ingenious, practical and scalable ways of tackling challenges in areas such as health, education, unemployment, aging, community regeneration and wellbeing.

During the 20th century we saw ideas such as The Samaritans, Meals on Wheels, the Open University, the internet and NHS Direct have profound impact on society, but who are the people or organisations set to become tomorrow's household names?

Britain's 50 New Radicals will be made up of individuals, community groups or larger organisations that have come up with new ways of making the world better. The work being done must be making a clear transformational difference, have been in operation for at least six months, be based in Britain and able to demonstrate evidence of success.

The final 50 will be selected by a panel of expert judges including:

  • John Mulholland, editor of The Observer
  • Geoff Mulgan, NESTA's chief executive
  • Martha Lane Fox, UK Digital Champion
  • Lucie Siegle writer and ethical living columnist for The Observer
  • Alicia Navarro, founder and CEO of Skimlinks
