Hasan Bakhshi, director of creative economy at Nesta, comments on new creative industry figures released today by the DCMS:

"These new experimental statistics from DCMS are the first time any government has produced estimates of the contribution of the creative economy - as opposed to just creative industries like the design, advertising and film sectors - to value added. This is important, as it acknowledges the large and growing role that creative talent like designers working in manufacturing or advertising professionals working in finance play in driving economic growth. The DCMS estimates confirm that these jobs are growing more rapidly than other jobs and Nesta's research has shown that they have the added attraction of being more resistant to future automation. We argue that the UK economy should create 1 million new creative jobs by 2030."
