Emma Finch is a ceramicist, freelance artist, artist educator and art therapist. Her large ceramic vase forms and plates chronicle the ever-changing face of London; from initial drawings, collages, prints and photographs, as a direct form of documentation, she renders them into ceramic.
Buildings provide the impetus for her work, in particular Brutalist schemes for the optimism and conviction with which they were designed. She paints and screen-prints directly onto clay with multiple colours and then builds them into forms with rich ceramic surfaces. Each object holds overlapping components of montaged images which become abstracted patterns through repetition or fragmentation.
Emma currently balances her creative business with freelance work as a mentor for BA students in Bath and London, as an art teacher for the Queen’s Gallery London and as a visiting tutor in ceramics and printing at BA and post-graduate level.
