NESTA FUTURELAB ANNOUNCES NEW CHIEF

12/08/2003

"We are delighted to have Annika on board to lead NESTA Futurelab in an important phase of its existence by establishing it as an organisation at the forefront of new thinking in learning software."

Based in Bristol, NESTA Futurelab is a blue skies laboratory with the aim of transforming the way people learn. Using new and emerging technologies, it will create rich education resources that are involving, interactive and imaginative. The idea was originally conceived by NESTA - the organisation that invests in creativity and innovation in the UK. It was set up with £3 million from the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) to create learning software and services based on interactive digital technology.

NESTA also announces the formation of a new Futurelab advisory board: Peter Orton, Executive Chairman, HIT Entertainment; Anthony Lilley, Managing Director of Magic Lantern; Professor Angela McFarlane, Graduate School of Education, University of Bristol; and Adrian Hall, Head of Content Development, ICT in Schools Division. The DfES will join NESTA Trustees, Lord Puttnam, Derek Wanless and Graham Ross Russell on this new advisory board.

Jeremy Newton, NESTA Chief Executive, comments on the appointment:

"We are delighted to have Annika on board to lead NESTA Futurelab in an important phase of its existence by establishing it as an organisation at the forefront of new thinking in learning software. She has already played an important role in laying the foundations for the organisation and we have every faith that she will display the right leadership skills in building the crucial partnerships and links with the key external audiences."
