Project Manager - Volunteer It Yourself (VIY)
Volunteer It Yourself (VIY) combines volunteering and DIY by challenging young people aged 14-24 to learn trade and building skills, on the job, by committing to fix local youth club and community centre buildings in need of essential repairs. VIY was launched in 2011 and, to date, over 150 youth club buildings across England and Wales have been refurbished, involving more than 3,000 young people and 450 trade skills mentors.
VIY participants are mentored by professional tradespeople, who also volunteer their time, and gain vocational accreditations as well as access to further training, work placement and apprenticeship opportunities with local employers beyond the project.
VIY is scaling up over the next three years, reaching and benefitting even more young people and communities with the support of Wickes, Nesta, Careers & Enterprise Company and other grant funders and commissioners.
We are looking for a driven and ambitious Project Manager to join the team at this exciting new stage. The VIY Project Manager will support the Programme Director on all aspects of delivery, specifically the recruitment, briefing/training and management of volunteer trade skills mentors.
We are looking for someone with a minimum of two years’ experience in project/volunteer management, who is excited about shaping an extraordinary offer for young people to help regenerate their communities and shape their futures. We are looking for an organised and passionate person with a proactive hands-on attitude and the ability to cultivate relationships, to motivate and influence people, to spot opportunities and solve problems.
VIY is fast moving and challenging and this role will require passion, determination and flexibility. A ‘people powered change’ attitude and ethos will be crucial to its success, and the VIY Project Manager must embody that very spirit.
