Plaxica is developing next generation biopolymers that will be both cheaper to produce and have improved properties compared with first generation biopolymers.
Its technology uses sustainable feedstocks to create a biopolymer known as polylactic acid (PLA), producing a form of PLA with superior properties to first generation variants.
Additionally, Plaxica's approach offers the potential for PLA to be cost comparable to certain petro-chemical sourced polymers. This will result in a low-cost, environmentally-friendly biopolymer for use in applications as diverse as packaging, textiles, electronics and automobile parts.

"NESTA have been practical and supportive in their dealings with Plaxica. They clearly understand the vision for the company and are actively helping us realise it."
