Interdisciplinary collaboration

The problems faced by society, such as global warming, ageing populations and sustainable growth, will need input from a number of disciplines.

But traditional boundaries between disciplines or knowledge communities create specialised and insular research agendas. By creating opportunities for such communities to interact, we can create new knowledge, produce innovations and start to solve society’s major challenges.

We aim to promote innovative models for promoting cross-disciplinary research in the UK and to understand the cultural and institutional barriers that need to be overcome for such research to flourish. We aim to measure the short- and long-term impact of these interventions so that others can implement the lessons from our work.
