In 2011, the Government announced that, subject to legislation, NESTA will be granted full independence, moving from the public to the voluntary sector to become a charitable company subject to approval by the Charity Commission.
The announcement on 19th January 2012 that an Order has been laid in Parliament to abolish NESTA as an NDPB is a technical part of this process which will make the move to charitable status possible.
This was an anticipated and known part of the transition process. NESTA will continue to operate, as it has done since its inception, at no cost to the Government or the taxpayer, by virtue of its Lottery endowment. Exact timings for this transition are to be confirmed and will be announced in due course.
