The Government has announced that it is holding a consultation on NESTA becoming a charitable body - this is a formal part of the process that the Government is required to complete under the Public Bodies Bill.
Back in October 2010 the Government announced that it would seek to establish NESTA as an independent charity, subject to Charity Commission approval, with its endowment held in a separate charitable trust.
The purpose of this move is to allow NESTA to continue its valuable work while protecting the endowment and moving NESTA out of the public sector.
As the Government has made clear in its consultation document there is no anticipated negative impact on NESTA's work as a result of this change to its status.
The consultation starts on Tuesday 18 October and will run for six weeks, closing at 5pm on 29 November 2011.
