Rooted Guide: Growing Your Own Social Venture

We would like to invite you to the launch of a new practical guide co-created by Nesta and UnLtd, aimed at supporting innovative social entrepreneurship in later life.

Based on our experience and learning from two programmes run by Nesta and UnLtd; the new Rooted guide provides clear, step-by-step practical advice and resources for those considering starting up their own social/community venture.

This event and publication will be of particular interest to those that recognise the opportunities that later life presents. Opportunities for older people to shape new forms of employment which are financially and socially rewarding, and, opportunities for communities to benefit from the leadership, capacity, skills and insight of older people. At the event Nesta and UnLtd will share their findings about how social entrepreneurship benefits those starting in later life and how their social ventures bring positive change in their communities. The content and structure of the Rooted guide is based on our learning about the priorities and support needs of later life people, and there will be time to ask questions and discuss how the guide can reach people of 50+ who wish to start a social venture.

Age Action Alliance working group on the Social and Economic Contribution of Older People:

After lunch, the Age Action Alliance working group on the Social and Economic Contribution of Older People will host a roundtable to discuss two pieces of work which seek to challenge current models of work and retirement. The first concerns how we can have a public conversation which shares practical ideas and learning about the overlap between work, volunteering and social entrepreneurship for people of 50+. The second, concerns the planning of a programme which brings age sector organisations together to support later life people to take up opportunities which fall within these overlapping areas.
