Over the past two years, Nesta's Age Unlimited Scotland, in partnership with the Scottish Government, has supported 27 novice older social entrepreneurs in their 50s and 60s to help turn their good ideas for improving their communities into a reality.
Through group training, support, peer mentoring and micro finance, the programme reached and supported novice social innovators across Scotland to play a central role in the design, development and delivery of sustainable new community ventures.
Based on our experience and learning from this programme, Nesta, together with Unltd, leading provider of support to social entrepreneurs, have developed the new Rooted guide which provides clear, step-by-step practical advice and resources for those considering starting up their own social/community venture.
This event will be of particular interest to individuals and organisations working with older people, as well those approaching retirement age and those developing policies aimed at helping older people become more involved in their communities. At the launch event you will have the opportunity to hear first-hand from the social entrepreneurs we have worked with, receive a hard copy of the Rooted guide and join in the conversation about the future opportunities of an ageing society. The guide is a free resource and available to download from the Nesta website.
