Mozilla Hack Jam

A two day hack jam with Mozilla, Nesta and partners to build Hackasauras learning missions, and then an optional third day of youth playtesting with students at a local school.

Who

Do you care about innovative ways to help kids learn important skills? Do you believe that digital and web literacies are critical for today's generation? Do you love the Web? Are you an instructor, educational technologist, developer, designer or interested other? Join us to build learning 'missions' to help kids make things on the web and learn web literacy skills in the process.

What

Develop five new Hackasauaras learning missions
We are going to brainstorm and build at least five learning 'missions' or mini-games that get kids building things that they care about on the Web, and learning skills like HTML, CSS and design thinking in the process.

Playtest with London youth
Then we are going to playtest and iterate on these missions with young people

Meet cool people and change the world
Come meet people that care about changing the world and making it easier and more fun for youth to learn important new literacies.

DAY 1: BRAINSTORMING AND CONCEPTING

May 24, Ravensbourne

Introduction to the concept of learning 'missions', brainstorming, concepting and paper prototyping of 5+ new missions

DAY 2: IMPLEMENTATION AND BUILDING

May 25, Ravensbourne

Implementation, building, playtesting within the groups, iterating

Optional DAY 3: YOUTH PLAYTESTING

10:00 - 13:00 Playtesting with youth at a local school

13:30: Lunch and debriefing among participants
