Central Banking for Citizens and Businesses: A modest proposal for radical reform

Date: 04.04.2013 15:30 - 17:30

Location: Nesta, 1 Plough Place, London, EC4A 1DE

"Economic growth is held back by industries where established interests are so powerful that disruptive innovation can be staved off for ever. Financial services is probably one" - John Kay

Politicians, civil servants and regulators are obsessing about what to do about the UK's unhealthy, unsatisfactory banking system. Many of their efforts seem like stop-gap measures and short-term fixes. Is it time for bolder steps? Come and hear Nicholas Gruen, one of Australia's most original and influential economists, present a radical, thoughtful solution, that puts the Central Bank directly at the service of its citizens.

Nick Gruen is CEO of Lateral Economics. He has advised the Australian government in a number of capacities. He is chairman of the Australian Centre for Social Innovation, and Online Opinion, and was founding chairman of Kaggle.

Registration will open at 15:00 with the event commencing at 15:30.
