Innovation and entrepreneurship are vital to the future of cities. High growth companies are creating the jobs of tomorrow. And a new wave of businesses are changing how people interact with the city around them.

But what can city governments do to make sure that they create the right conditions for talent, ideas and businesses to flourish? And how can they harness this energy to make better places to live?

CITIE, a new piece of research by Nesta, Accenture and the Future Cities Catapult, answers these questions by setting out a framework for designing good policy, and assessing the state of the art from 40 global cities.

To mark the publication CITIE, Nesta, Second Home and Index Ventures invited guests to share an evening of discussion and debate about innovation, entrepreneurship and cities.

The first panel session explored the city as a crucible for innovation. Hosted by John Gibson, Director of Government Innovation at Nesta with:

  • Rohan Silva, Co-founder at Second Home
  • Neil Rimer, Co-founder at Index Ventures
  • Andrew Collinge, Assistant Director at Greater London Authority

The second panel session explored how startups are using cities and how cities can be better hosts for startups. Hosted by Sally Davies, Technology and Innovation Correspondent from The Financial Times, with:

  • Matthew Robinson, Managing Director of Policy Research at Accenture
  • Greg Marsh, CEO at OneFineStay
  • Will Shu, CEO at Deliveroo
