Charles is well known as author of several best selling books on innovation, among them We-Think: Mass Innovation Not Mass Production, as well as many influential reports, such as 'The rise of the social entrepreneur'.
His TED talks on innovation are hugely popular; one based on his report 'Learning from the extremes: exploring the lessons of innovators working under extreme conditions in the developing world' has been seen more than 1.5 million times. Charles is chair of Apps for Good and the Nominet Trust, as well as a senior associate at Nesta.
Charles spoke about his latest book The Frugal Innovator, which looks at a wave of innovators from Latin America, Asia and Africa, who are responding to the tight constraints and a lack of resources by devising low cost solutions to pressing social challenges which are lean, simple, clean and social.
The Frugal Innovator argues these solutions, the people, organisations and methods that produce them will become more vital in both the developed and developing world in future.
