Digital Convergence

Audiences are increasingly consuming content across different media, which has prompted UK broadcasters to increase commissioning budgets for multi-platform content. Independent TV production companies and new media companies have a financial incentive to get together to collaborate on cross-platform ideas, but different business models in the two sectors mean that there are currently no legal frameworks by which they can work together.

We're working with Pact, the UK trade association that represents independent feature film, television, animation and interactive media, to develop ‘teaming agreements’. These are legal templates, which can be used to enable independent TV production companies and new media companies to work together to win new, cross-platform commissions, with a model for jointly exploiting the intellectual property created. The collaborative approach also extends to a wiki, run by PACT, where draft documents can be reviewed and amended by participants as they are produced.
