Crucible

Ever wondered what a space scientist and a biologist might have in common or how an artist could help a particle physicist? Crucible is a chance to stop wondering and discover what great minds, inspiring speakers and creative thinkers can achieve through collaboration across research disciplines.

Day-to-day researchers face demanding challenges in their own fields. But what about the wider world? What about more complex challenges that can’t be solved by one discipline alone? By bringing bright thinkers together, Crucible is designed to help people see the bigger picture.

Crucible aims to help researchers to discover:

  • how other early to mid-career researchers are tackling the same issues as them
  • how evidence-based policy is made
  • how to communicate with the media and public
  • skills and attitudes likely to make their research more innovative
  • how thinking creatively can really make a difference to their work and career

The challenges facing society today require people from different disciplines to collaborate and think outside the box. Crucible is just the start.

"Meeting people from such diverse backgrounds got me thinking about how I could expand my research and take a different approach to developing ideas in the future." Jamie Harle, Crucible participant
