Below is a list of all the different projects and organisations we’ve funded through the Centre for Social Action Innovation Fund, a partnership between Nesta and the Cabinet Office. The Social Innovation Mentor Network links the portfolio organisations below with expert mentors, helping them to scale up and maximise their impact.
Shared Lives Plus - Shared Lives carers share their own home and family life with an older or disabled person, as an alternative to traditional care services.
The Silver Line - The Silver Line is a free, 24-hour telephone helpline for older people offering information, friendship and advice.
Rebuilding Connections by Social Finance - Social Finance has worked with care services and communities in Worcestershire to design a programme that reduces loneliness and improves well-being in older age.
The Green Gym - The Green Gym combines keeping fit with improving the environment, transforming volunteers' health and wellbeing while improving local areas.
North London Cares - NorthLondon Cares is a community network mobilisingyoung professionals to support their older neighbours.
Integrated Care Pathway, by Age UK - The ‘integrated care pathway’ is a pioneering new way of delivering support for older people with long term conditions, led by Age UK.
Good Neighbours Scheme by Bedfordshire Rural Communities Council - Good Neighbour schemes are very localised support networks, harnessing and facilitating street-based, grassroots social action and building social capital within communities.
StreetDoctors - StreetDoctors helps young offenders turn their lives around by using volunteer medical students to teach them live-saving first aid skills.
Parents 1st – Parents 1st enables local parents to help isolated mums have healthier pregnancies, a positive birth and the confidence to give their babies the best start in life.
User Voice – User Voice is a charity run by ex-offenders, which aims to reform criminal justice and reduce re-offending by giving marginalised people within the prison and probation systems a voice.
Spice – Spice encourages people to volunteer their time with local public services in return for “time credits” which are redeemable for experiences, such as access to movies, public pools or training courses, on an hour for hour exchange rate.
GoodGym - GoodGym encourages volunteering by channelling the energy that people spend on exercising and turning it into positive social action.
Integrated Breathe Easy Groups by British Lung Foundation – The British Lung Foundation is transforming its peer support network of Breathe Easy Groups, integrating these groups into local health services to support people to self-manage their care.
Peer Support by Diabetes UK - Diabetes UK is rolling out a new model of support for people with diabetes.
MySupportBroker – MySupportBroker draws on the expertise of people with long-term conditions to help others lead better lives – taking control and planning their own care.
Let's Get Moving by UK Active - UK Active is using volunteers to expand Let’s Get Moving – an innovative programme helping inactive people adopt more active lifestyles.
Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council - The Council is embarking on an ambitious programme to redesign its local care system - with social action at its core.
First Call, by British Red Cross - First Call is a 12-week, volunteer-led course of support to those recovering from a crisis such as hospital discharge or bereavement.
RNIB - Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) offers practical and emotional support for anyone affected by sight loss in the UK.
Stroke Association - The Stroke Association is providing practical support for stroke patients through peers who know what it’s like to recover from a stroke.
Carers UK - Carers UK is being supported by the Centre for Social Action Innovation Fund to establish a national Social Action programme to enable carers to support carers
Action Tutoring – Action Tutoring is tackling educational disadvantage by offering free tuition for students who need extra help with GCSE English or Maths, working with volunteers.
City Year UK – City Year UK has an ambitious goal – to make a ‘year of service’ (full-time volunteering) in schools a typical part of young adulthood.
Code Club – Code Club is a network of volunteer-led after school coding clubs, teaching young people how to build digital products like websites, animations or computer
Team Up – Team Up trains outstanding university students to voluntarily work with secondary school pupils who need extra help to improve their grades and realise their potential.
The Access Project – The Access Project matches business volunteers with motivated students from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them progress to top universities.
TLG Early Intervention Programme – TLG Early Intervention programme trains volunteers to work with primary aged children to tackle behavioural problems and build their confidence.
The Cathedral Volunteer Programme - The Cathedral Volunteer Programme provides unemployed volunteers with experience, support and connects them to local employers.
VIY Volunteer It Yourself - VIY challenges young people to learn trade and building skills by committing to fix local youth clubs and community buildings.
Steps Ahead Mentoring by CIPD - Steps Ahead Mentoring recruits and matches HR professionals to act as mentors to unemployed young people.
Smart Works - Smart Works helps female job seekers back into the workplace.
Task Squad - Task Squad is a new service from vInspired which helps find short-term paid work for young people with a track record of social action.
Vi-Ability - Vi-Ability works to help young people to develop their skills and find work, while supporting community sports clubs to become financially sustainable.
Beyond Boundaries, by Body & Soul - Body & Soul provides peer mentoring and professional support for young people and families with HIV.
d2 Digital by Design Ltd - d2 Digital by Design Ltd is rolling out a new digital approach to supporting behaviour change in those who need to change their alcohol drinking patterns.
Get Connected - Get Connected is the UK’s helpline for under-25s who need help but don’t know where to turn.
Big PD by uMotif Limited - Big PD pioneers a new form of social action – the collection and donation of data by patients and the public, to improve treatment and self-care for Parkinson’s Disease.
London Ambulance Service – The London Ambulance Service is developing a smartphone app that connects people with first-aid skills to emergency situations in their vicinity.
Talklife – A social network aiming to tackle the global youth mental health crisis.
