Chris Sherwood sums up the discussion and debate on the role of older citizens in society, from our Ageing Society seminar at Civil Service Live.
We were pleased to be joined by approximately 30 civil servants for our recent seminar on Innovation for an Ageing Society at Civil Service Live.
The presentation and discussion focused on the central role for older citizens in unearthing the solutions to re-frame the way we view an ageing society - from a problem to an opportunity. The discussion looked at the challenges of engaging a cohort of citizens, who are unmotivated and in some cases hostile to the issue of an ageing society, in finding the solutions.
The seminar introduced the work of the Lab's Age Unlimited programme, which targets people in their fifties and sixties to find new ways to extend employment, to facilitate the move into other roles and interests in order to improve well-being and to prepare for the many transitions associated with an extended old age. The programme will also build understanding of how to involve prospective users of new services in the development of these innovations.
