ncvo conference on climate change

Vicki Purewal - 18.02.2009

The ncvo are running a free conference on Climate Change and the Voluntary and Community Sector on 5th March.

Great to see that ncvo are running a free conference on Climate Change and the Voluntary and Community Sector on 5th March.  The conference aims to provide a forum for identifying and discussing the implications of climate change for voluntary and community sector organisations.  The questions they are posing focus on voluntary and community secor organisations themselves:

  • Does your organisation understand the impact its services and practices may have on the environment?
  • Will increasing numbers of environmental refugees impact on the services your organisation provides?
  • Could an eco-audit of your services save you money and help you through the economic downturn?

While these are useful and important questions, I hope the debate will also extend to the role voluntary and community secor organisations can play, and (as we know through our Big Green Challengers) are already playing, in pioneering the delivery of new projects and services to support, and lead, the transition to a lower carbon society.
