Two events that remind me that although we are a UK based fund, investing in UK technology, the markets that our businesses can address are global.
Further Investment in Plaxica
Firstly we, along with Imperial Innovations, Invesco and Carbon Trust have provided a further £3m of Investment into Plaxica. Plaxica is a recent investment of ours working on some novel biopolymer technology and attracting a lot of interest from investors and corporates. Their IP and process technology has the opportunity to take a chunk out of much less green, petro chemical based plastics industry. Take a look at www.plaxica.com - definitely a business to follow - addressing a multi billion market and looking to take its technology to many parts of the globe.
UK - India technology collaboration
And secondly we are hosting what looks like a really interesting event in early September aimed at driving closer collaboration on Innovation between the UK and India. A high powered delegation from the Indian Institutes of Technology is attending a one day event here at NESTA - to explore some of the key sectors that we are hoping will drive the UK economy forwards - low carbon, advanced and hi-tech engineering and New Media. The event should be of interest to VCs, innovators and policy makers.
