Resolutions for a digital new year

The trees are up, the mince pies out, and the garlands hung. As the days get shorter and colder, we at Nesta have begun to look forward to the new year and reflect on our progress, challenges and achievements over 2012.

And what a busy year it's been! On the digital education front, we've seen a lot happen - not least:

Partnering with some great organisations like the Mozilla Foundation, the Nominet Trust, and Futurelab at NFER, to develop two programmes: Digital Makers and Decoding Learning
Launching an open call for our Digital Makers campaign and fund (which will be closing on January 17, 2013)
Working with fantastic researchers from the London Knowledge Lab and University of Nottingham to produce our report Decoding Learning: The Proof, Promise and Potential of Digital Education
Hosting a range of unique events, like our Failure Fest, and hosted fantastic speakers like Howard Gardner and Michael Barber
And, finally, welcoming a new director (Tom Kenyon) and policy advisor (Kathleen Stokes) to the education team

To ring in this festive season and give thought to our aspirations, the talk of resolutions came up the other day. Resolutions can seem daunting, and they are often altered, forgotten or broken outright. But that's no reason not to make them in the first place! By proclaiming our goals publicly, we display our intentions and hold ourselves (a bit) more accountable. As such, we are asking everyone who is passionate about digital education to take a moment over the coming week and announce their personal resolution for digital education in 2013. Will you help organise a Code Club or Summer Code Party? Or perhaps you will support, share or invest in a new educational practice that unites research, technology and practice? Whatever it is, we want to hear it.

Our team will be tweeting their digital education resolutions over the coming week and politely pestering many of you to do the same. Despite hiccups and debates, the past year has seen knowledge and enthusiasm reach critical mass for digital education. As we hunker down to relax and rejoice with family and friends, let's take a moment to keep this energy and dedication alive and remind ourselves of the even greater things to come in 2013.
