Wendy Spencer: Learning from AmeriCorps and City Year in the US
The Centre for Social Action Innovation Fund’s goal is to encourage social action and in doing so to add to the efficiency and effectiveness of public service delivery.
Our main way of doing this is by supporting successful UK programmes to scale; however, we have also been looking around the world for examples of best practice that we can learn from.
One of the most impressive, large scale examples of volunteering is in the US – where over 80,000 AmeriCorps volunteers spend a year dedicating their lives to service.
In order to hear more about the good work that AmeriCorps and City Year volunteers do, we invited Wendy Spencer, Chief Exec of the Corporation for National and Community Service to speak here at Nesta about the lessons she has learned in leading these impressive examples of social action.
Based on input from Wendy others on the evening, we've created a short video with a few thoughts from the night.
