Updates from across the pond
In September 2009, 17 Mayors across the United States signed up to become part of the Cities of Service coalition; in September 2014 seven UK Cities joined the coalition bringing Cities of Service to the UK.
In picking up the mantle our Cities have been fortunate in working with Catie Wolfgang (Serve Philadelphia), Laurel Creech (Impact Nashville), Michael Drake (Little Rock Serves) and Marcia Hope Goodwin (Orlando Cares) who share with them their experiences as Chief Service Officers (CSO) in US.
Through the blog, From the horse’s mouth... we were able to share with you footage of Laurel, Marcia and Catie talking about how partnering with Cities of Service has helped their initiatives.
In this video we have the opportunity to hear from Mayors, city managers, and chief service officers from the US Cities of:
Richmond, California, the state average pass rate in subjects such as English and the arts has doubled, through having over 100 volunteers supporting 200 students as part of their WriterCoach Connection programme.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania speak about sustainability and their Waste Watchers programme.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania talk about their Education and Youth programme Promise Coaches.
