Destination Local Demonstrators competition - and the winners are...
After many months in the making, we’re excited to announce the winners of the Destination Local Demonstrators competition. £2.4 million will be shared among four projects that will be working within local communities across Yorkshire, the South West, London and beyond, to provide new hyperlocal media services.
The four projects were successful through a two-part competition process, which saw 39 expressions of interest in the first stage and 11 applications in the second stage.
The project teams were also put through their paces during a week-long ‘Sandpit’ (incubation lab) in February, in which they dodged the rising waters of the River Trent and endured lots of prodding and provocation from the facilitation team.
The intensive week paid off for our winners, who successfully collaborated and developed their projects, demonstrating the potential of their technology-led hyperlocal solutions. Without further ado, the winning projects are...TownFizz, Near You Now, Media Mill and Community Channel South West.
Nesta will be working with the projects for about 18 months, building on our extensive research published within the last two years, to generate significant knowledge and further stimulate UK-wide activity and investment of this diverse and growing market.
