Portsmouth Diocesan Council for Social Responsibility: Prescribing Volunteering

Poor health and the early onset of disability is one of the main reasons why people over 50 leave the labour market early.

This service has been designed to improve health and wellbeing among people in this group by 'prescribing' a programme of volunteering to patients through GP practices.

The Diocese of Portsmouth has worked with the Grange Surgery in Petersfield to develop a seamless volunteering experience for patients who the GP or practice staff think may benefit from the service.

Patients are given the option to volunteer as part of one of their local Good Neighbours Groups, a network of local groups that work in the community supporting local people.
