Coventry University and South Birmingham Primary Care Trust have worked in partnership to create a career development service for nurses and allied health professionals (including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and speech and language therapists).
These workers are often forced to retire early from the NHS due to ill health and a lack of alternative non-physical job options.
This service aims to prepare employees for retirement or to continue working in another role. This could include skills development to open up new opportunities, or identifying strengths that could be used to transition into another sector – or a different role within the NHS.
The service has been developed as part of the performance review system that NHS professionals already have every year. It supports the professional development of older workers and prepares them for using their skills in retirement.
