John is a Venture Partner at Greylock Partners, where he invests in early stage technology companies. He is also the chief executive officer of Mozilla, where he is responsible for guiding the product and organizational development efforts for the global organization behind the Firefox web browser. Prior to his career at Mozilla, John was the founder, CTO and VP products of Reactivity, an XML Security company acquired by Cisco Systems in 2007.
He has served as a senior scientist at Apple Computer Research Labs, and has held positions at Trilogy Software, Sun Microsystems and HP, among other companies. John is a regular speaker at industry events and serves on the board of directors of TripIt, the Open Source Application Foundation, and the Participatory Culture Foundation. He has an appointment as a Consulting Assistant Professor at Stanford University's "d.school" -- the Hasso Plattner School of design, and is on the board of advisors for the Stanford Technology Ventures Program. He earned a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in computer science from Stanford University, and holds six United States patents for technology.
He's married with a five year old son, and is interested and active in the areas of education and citizenship in the US.
