In a series of reports, NESTA has looked at specific technology-led sectors in the UK, and examined how innovation policy and the wider ecosystem has an impact on their potential for growth.
The 'Chips with everything' report looks at the semiconductor design cluster in the South West, and the factors that led to the creation of that cluster. The role that collaboration can play in the success of the UK's biomedical industry is reviewed in detail in 'All together now'.
Most recently, 'Financing Industrial Biotechnology in the UK' presents a summary of views from the Industrial Biotech industry on how funding could be improved for biotechnology advances in chemicals, energy, materials and waste.
By characterising these 'hard' technology sectors, we hope to identify how different policy instruments are likely to affect them, and where industry-led initiatives are being effective.
