This event launched the Centre for Challenge Prizes.The Centre was announced by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) in their recent Innovation and Research strategy. It will act a hub for expertise in designing and running challenge prizes to tackle social and technological challenges in the public interest.
Speakers at the launch event included David Willetts, Minister of State for Universities and Science, Jason Crusan, Director, Center of Excellence for Collaborative Innovation at Nasa, Cristin Dorgelo, Assistant Director for Grand Challenges, Office of Science and Technology Policy, Executive Office of the President (via video) and Geoff Mulgan, CEO, Nesta.
In this interview the Director, Center of Excellence for Collaborative Innovation at NASA talks about the organisation's use of challenge prizes and offers some examples of the most successful uses of prizes for innovation.
