Apps for Good is an award-winning programme where young people learn to create imaginative mobile apps that change their world. It currently runs in 40 schools in the UK, where students work together to find out the issues they want to tackle and how best to solve them with mobile and web applications.

By the end of the Apps for Good programme, students have gained a useful understanding of the technology market, covering product development, design and marketing in a practical way. It provides them with the opportunity to learn, practice and develop a full range of skills, for example problem solving, which will help when seeking employment.

Throughout the programme, students are mentored by technology and business professionals including mobile developers, designers, and entrepreneurs. Mentoring occurs via events, work experience and through an online platform which facilitates regular interaction between creative industry professionals and students.

Apps for Good is bridging the knowledge gap in technology and putting the tools in the hands of young people, so they become agents of change, through digital inclusion, entrepreneurship and community action.

The Award: CDI Europe has been awarded £100,000 to build the second generation of their online platform. The aim is for the platform to become the simplest and most effective way that tech professionals can volunteer their expert skills.
